Reduced-Order Modeling of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mixing in a Twin-Blade Planetary Mixer Using Data-Driven Singular Value Decomposition

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Twin-blade planetary mixers are widely employed in the mixing of particle-laden non-Newtonian fluids. Their unique blade configuration makes accurate blade load distribution determination crucial for structural integrity and mixing efficiency.

Distribution of cognitive load in Web search [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2010
AbstractThe search task and the system both affect the demand on cognitive resources during information search. In some situations the demands may become too high for a person. This article has a three‐fold goal. First, it presents and critiques methods to measure cognitive load.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Performance Analysis and Flow Mechanism of Close-Range Overlapping Rotor in Hover

open access: yesDrones
High payload capacity multi-rotor aerial vehicles are typically configured with multiple propellers to achieve the required aerodynamic lift. However, this design approach often results in an increased overall dimensional envelope, which introduces ...

Distributed load balancing in heterogenous systems

open access: yes2014 48th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), 2014
We consider the problem of distributed load balancing in heterogenous parallel server systems, where the service rate achieved by a user at a server depends on both the user and the server. Such heterogeneity typically arises in wireless networks (e.g., servers may represent frequency bands, and the service rate of a user varies across bands).

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Simplified Load Distribution Factors for Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composite Bridge Decks

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2013
In recent years, researchers have investigated the load distribution factors due to vehicle wheel loads. Several load distribution factors for fiber reinforced polymer deck-steel stringer bridge systems have been proposed.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.
