Summary: We investigate multiplicity of solutions \(u(x,t)\) for a piecewise linear perturbation \(-(bu^+ -au^-)\) of the one-dimensional beam operator \(u_{tt} +u_{xxxx}\) under Dirichlet boundary condition on the interval \((-\pi/2, \pi/2)\) and periodic condition on the variable \(t\).

Cauchy problem for equations with loadings on surfaces

The authors consider differential equations which include not only values of a function in the points of some region but also its values in the points of submanifolds of smaller dimension. A theorem about correctness of the Cauchy problem for a class of such equations is proved.

Reaeration Equations and Waste‐Load Allocations

This technical note estimates the possible effects on calculated critical dissolved oxygen deficits of using reaeration equations as compared to measured reaeration rates. Differences between observed and calculated reaeration coefficients can produce changes of about 30 percent in the calculated critical dissolved oxygen deficits.
