Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2022 AbstractWe extend the Burger–Mozes theory of closed, nondiscrete, locally quasiprimitive automorphism groups of locally finite, connected graphs to the semiprimitive case, and develop a generalization of Burger–Mozes universal groups acting on the regular tree $T_{d}$ of degree $d\in \mathbb {N}_{\ge 3}$ . Three applications are given.

Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1980 Differentiable actions by the nonabelian 2-dimensional Lie group on compact manifolds are considered. When the action is locally free and the orbits have codimension one it is shown that there are at most finitely many minimal sets each containing a countably infinite number of cylindrical orbits.
