Local adaptation in fungi

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Reviews, 2022
AbstractIn this review, I explore the pervasive but underappreciated role of local adaptation in fungi. It has been difficult historically to study local adaptation in fungi because of the limited understanding of fungal species and their traits, but new hope has been offered with technological advances in sequencing.

Farmers Adaptation as Local Wisdom in Drought Disaster in Simpenan Sub-District, Sukabumi District

open access: yesAgritepa, 2023
The farmer community is never separated from drought as an environmental cycle. This study aims to determine the adaptation formed by the environment of hydrometeorological disasters as the most important factor in shaping local wisdom in shaping the ...

A model of local adaptation [PDF]

open access: yesACM Transactions on Graphics, 2015
The visual system constantly adapts to different luminance levels when viewing natural scenes. The state of visual adaptation is the key parameter in many visual models. While the time-course of such adaptation is well understood, there is little known about the spatial pooling that drives the adaptation signal.

Mild temperatures differentiate while extreme temperatures unify gene expression profiles among populations of Dicosmoecus gilvipes in California

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Accurately predicting the effects of future warming on aquatic ectotherms requires an understanding how thermal history, including average temperature and variation, affects populations of the same species.

Estimating the impacts of climate change on the habitat suitability of common minke whales integrating local adaptation

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
Climate change is exerting unprecedented effects on the habitats of marine mammals. Common minke whales (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) have suffered immense harm from commercial whaling, and the recovery of this species is likely threatened by climate ...

LOCALLY ADAPTIVE AND DIFFERENTIABLE REGRESSION

open access: yesJournal of Machine Learning for Modeling and Computing, 2023
Overparameterized models like deep nets and random forests have become very popular in machine learning. However, the natural goals of continuity and differentiability, common in regression models, are now often ignored in modern overparametrized, locally adaptive models.

Interactive Effects of Epichloë Endophyte, Dormancy-Breaking Treatments and Geographic Origin on Seed Germination of Achnatherum inebrians

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Background: the cool-season grass Achnatherum inebrians (drunken horse grass) is an important species in the northwest grasslands of China. This grass engages in a symbiotic relationship with Epichloë endophytes, which affect host plants by increasing ...

Locally Adaptive Sampling [PDF]

open access: yes2010 48th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2010
In this paper, we introduce a class of Locally Adaptive Sampling schemes. In this sampling family, time intervals between samples can be computed by using a function of previously taken samples, called a sampling function. Hence, though it is a non-uniform sampling scheme, we do not need to keep sampling times.

Local adaptation in the transgenerational response to copper pollution in the bryozoan Bugula neritina

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2022
Transgenerational plasticity (TGP)—when a parent or previous generation's environmental experience affects offspring phenotype without involving a genetic change—can be an important mechanism allowing for rapid adaptation.
