Electroencephalographic depression after abruptly increasing partial pressure of end-tidal carbon dioxide: a case series

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology
Background Prolonged electroencephalographic depression during surgery is associated with poor outcomes for patients. However, the published literature on electroencephalographic depression caused by a sudden increase in the partial pressure of end-tidal

WALANT for distal radius fracture: open reduction with plating fixation via wide-awake local anesthesia with no tourniquet

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2018
BackgroundThe wide-awake local anesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) technique is applied during various hand surgeries. We investigated the perioperative variables and clinical outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for distal radius ...

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

The Prevalence of Advance Directives and Its Moderators Among Community People, Acutely and Chronically Ill Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesInquiry: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing
Advance Directives (ADs) are essential in end-of-life care, enabling individuals to retain autonomy when they can no longer make decisions. However, data on ADs prevalence and influencing factors in different populations (acutely ill, chronically ill ...

Rapid quantification and validation of etomidate and dexmedetomidine blood concentrations in rats using a novel portable mass spectrometer

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
In clinical anesthesia, precise dosing depends on feedback from blood drug concentrations. However, rapid tools for measuring these concentrations are currently limited.

Diplopia with local anesthesia

open access: yesNational Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery, 2011
A variety of local and systemic complications can occur during the administration of local anesthesia (LA). Diplopia is one of the very rare complications that follow a posterior superior alveolar (PSA) nerve block. This article describes a very rare case report and the possible mechanisms are discussed in detail.

Electrical pulse stimulation reflecting the episodic nature of real‐life exercise modulates metabolic and secretory profile of primary human myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.
