Pixel compesation for locally dimmed backlight displays

2011 IEEE 19th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2011
This paper proposes a novel pixel compensation technique for Led backlight displays. The proposed technique explicitly computes the screen intensity distribution using the point spread function (PSF) of the individual Leds to calculate per-pixel-based intensity decrease due to the dimmed Leds.

Local Dimming Design for LCD Backlight

2019
The local-dimming backlight has recently been presented for use in LCD TVs. However, the image resolution is low, particularly at weak edges. In this work, a local-dimming backlight is developed to improve the image contrast and reduce power dissipation. The algorithm enhances low-level edge information to improve the perceived image resolution.

An optical feedback system for local dimming backlight with RGB LEDs

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2009
One of the major issues plaguing RGB LED backlight is color shift. This phenomenon is due to the characteristic changes of each Red, Green, and Blue LEDs as the time and temperature variation. To compensate this variation, many researchers are proposed color control method for the stable color management.

An Optimized Backlight Local Dimming Algorithm for Edge-Lit LED Backlight LCDs

Journal of Display Technology, 2015
This paper presents an efficient optimized backlight local dimming method that minimizes power consumption under a given allowable distortion for liquid crystal displays with edge-lit light-emitting diode backlight. To reduce image quality fluctuation, an inequality constraint optimization problem is formulated using a given allowable distortion and ...

50.3: Proposai of Evaluation Method for Local‐Dimming Backlights

SID Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, 2010
Abstract A local‐dimming control is one of the advanced ways for backlighting an LCD. It balances less power consumption with higher contrast than other ordinary backlighting systems by independently controlling each luminance of backlights according to pictures. On the other hand, a new defect arises; that is, all the backlight units

64.4: Smart Algorithms for Local Dimming LED Backlight

SID Symposium Digest of Technical Papers, 2008
Abstract To reduce power consumption and improve image quality including contrast ratio and color gamut, LED backlight units (BLUs) consisting of many small blocks in 2‐dimensional space are implemented. Either white‐gray‐level luminance or color is controlled by the local dimming LED BLU.

A novel local dimming algorithm for RGB-LED backlight

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
A large size RGB LED backlight unit and its local dimming algorithm are presented in this paper. The LED backlight unit and the LCD panel are controlled synchronously to enhance image contrast and improve power efficacy. Based on the image content, the backlight intensity is locally dimmed, and pixel values are compensated according to the backlight
