Attitudes of cancer patients toward ctDNA‐based liquid biopsy for follow‐up

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This mixed‐methods study explored cancer patients' experiences, knowledge, and preferences regarding ctDNA‐based liquid biopsy for follow‐up. Awareness of ctDNA was low and recall of previous liquid biopsy was imperfect, yet acceptance was high.

Local excision of rectal cancer with Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM)

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Local excision for T1 rectal cancers with Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) is an accepted standard of care. However for T2/T3 rectal cancers, the high local failure indicates that this is not a valid option.

An outer membrane vesicle‐associated two‐track model for enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis oncogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis is a gut bacterium linked to bowel cancer. We propose that its toxin acts along two routes: at the cell surface, cutting the adhesion protein E‐cadherin and triggering inflammation; and inside the cell, delivered by bacterial vesicles, switching on NOD1 and cancer stem cell programs.

Comparison of En Bloc Resection and Intralesional Excision for Re‐resection of Giant Cell Tumors of the Spine

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery
Objective Re‐resection of spinal giant cell tumors is an exceedingly difficult procedure. Moreover, the prognosis of patients with en bloc resection or intralesional excision for re‐resection has rarely been reported.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

National trends in local excision and esophagectomy for cT1N0 esophageal cancer.

open access: yes, 2017
62 Background: Esophageal cancer management has evolved due to improvements in staging and treatment strategies. Endoscopic local excision presents an attractive option for definitive management of T1 cancers, avoiding the morbidity of esophagectomy ...

Effect of re-excision on local recurrence in patients with involved or close margins after upfront breast-conserving surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology
Background Involved margins after breast-conserving surgery are associated with increased risk of local recurrence. A systematic search and meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the still-unclear role of re-excision in reducing this risk.

Vacuum-assisted excision: a safe minimally invasive option for benign phyllodes tumor diagnosis and treatment—a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
SynopsisThis is a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing surgical excision with percutaneous ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted excision (US-VAE) for the treatment of benign phyllodes tumor (PT) using local recurrence (LR) as the endpoint ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral
