A Comparative Study of Time Fractional Nonlinear Drinfeld–Sokolov–Wilson System via Modified Auxiliary Equation Method

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
The time-fractional nonlinear Drinfeld–Sokolov–Wilson system, which has significance in the study of traveling waves, shallow water waves, water dispersion, and fluid mechanics, is examined in the presented work.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Non-local fractional derivatives. Discrete and continuous [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We prove maximum and comparison principles for the discrete fractional derivatives in the integers. Regularity results when the space is a mesh of length h, and approximation theorems to the continuous fractional derivatives are shown. When the functions

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Structures of mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase reveal carrier‐domain translocation between catalytic sites

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mycobacterial 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA carboxylase uses a mobile biotin‐carrying domain to shuttle a carboxyl group between two catalytic sites, enabling carboxylation of 3‐methylcrotonyl‐CoA during leucine breakdown. Cryo‐electron microscopy captures the carrier at both sites and reveals an inward loop movement that may prevent futile rebinding to the ...

A Continuous Time Bertrand Duopoly Game With Fractional Delay and Conformable Derivative: Modeling, Discretization Process, Hopf Bifurcation, and Chaos

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
The purpose of this paper is three-fold. First, we present a discretization process to obtain numerical solutions of a conformable fractional-order system with delays. Second, we extend the classical Bertrand duopoly game with integer delays to that with

On plane Λ-fractional linear elasticity theory

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2020
: Non-local plane elasticity problems are discussed in the context of Λ-fractional linear elasticity theory. Adapting the Λ-fractional derivative along with the Λ-fractional space, where geometry and mechanics are valid in the conventional way, non-local

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Local fractional Khalouta transform: Properties and applications [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Numerical Analysis and Optimization
In the current paper, we propose a new hybrid method for solving local fractional differential equations. The proposed method is based on the coupling of the Khalouta transform with the local fractional derivative and we call it local fractional Khalouta
