$p$-local finite group cohomology [PDF]
We study cohomology for $p$-local finite groups with non-constant coefficient systems. In particular we show that under certain restrictions there exists a cohomology transfer map in this context, and deduce the standard consequences.

Local Group Dwarf Galaxies: Nature And Nurture [PDF]
We investigate the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies in a high resolution, hydrodynamical cosmological simulation of a Milky Way sized halo and its environment.

Planetary Nebulae Surveys Beyond the Local Group [PDF]
Distant planetary nebulae (PNe) are used to measure distances through the PN luminosity function, as kinematic tracers in determining the mass distribution in elliptical galaxies, and most recently, for measuring the kinematics of the diffuse stellar ...

Testing MOND with Local Group spiral galaxies [PDF]
The rotation curves and the relative mass distributions of the two nearby Local Group spiral galaxies, M31 and M33, show discrepancies with Modified Newtonian dynamic (MOND) predictions.

Reionization of the Local Group of Galaxies [PDF]
We present the first detailed structure formation and radiative transfer simulations of the reionization history of our cosmic neighbourhood. To this end, we follow the formation of the Local Group of galaxies and nearby clusters by means of constrained ...

A renormalisation group method. II. Approximation by local polynomials [PDF]
This paper is the second in a series devoted to the development of a rigorous renormalisation group method for lattice field theories involving boson fields, fermion fields, or both.

As a form of protection, a nature park is often created to protect and valorise natural and cultural heritage in peripheral rural areas. However, in terms of multifunctionality, new nature parks incorporate traditional productive activities, such as ...

Variable stars in Local Group Galaxies - II. Sculptor dSph [PDF]
We present the identification of 634 variable stars in the Milky Way dSph satellite Sculptor based on archival ground-based optical observations spanning $\sim$24 years and covering $\sim$ 2.5 deg$^2$.

Star Formation Histories with Gaia: The Galaxy and Beyond
ESA’s Gaia mission will provide accurate astrometric, photometric and spectroscopic data for millions of stars in the Galaxy and beyond. We discuss the prospects of using this vast amount of astrophysical information for understanding star formation ...

Several decades of observations of the most massive and most luminous stars have revealed a complex upper HR Diagram, shaped by mass loss, and inhabited by a variety of evolved stars exhibiting the consequences of their mass loss histories.
