Coefficients of Local Head Losses in Steady-State Flow of Throttled Surge Tanks with Standpipe by CFD

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
This study investigates the steady-state flow pattern of throttled surge tanks with standpipe, especially the coefficients of local head losses. The experiments were carried out, and FLUENT, which solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, was applied to experimental data for solving flow fields.

Equations and characteristics of the local water head loss for fluid flow at fracture intersections

Physics of Fluids
For fluid flow in fracture networks, the local water head loss will occur due to the fluid convergence or deflection at fracture intersections, which obviously affect the flow characteristics of fracture networks. In this study, equations of local water head losses for fluid flow at the fracture intersections were derived based on the work-energy ...

Hearing loss due to concurrent daily low-dose cisplatin chemoradiation for locally advanced head and neck cancer

Radiotherapy and Oncology, 2008
Cisplatin-based chemo-irradiation (CRT) is increasingly used for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). We aimed to assess hearing deterioration due to low-dose cisplatin chemoradiation and to compare the observed hearing loss with hearing loss in our previously described high-dose cisplatin CRT cohort.A prospective analysis of hearing ...

[Two variants of loss of sight (blindness) after local irradiation of the head in cats and dogs].

Radiobiologiia, 1985
After local irradiation of heads with doses of 50 to 100 Gy cats and dogs exhibited two types of a loss of sight: early blindness (during the first two hours) noted only in cats after a dose of 100 Gy, and delayed blindness in cats after a dose of 50 Gy, and in dogs after all doses under study.

Modified Hazen–Williams and Darcy–Weisbach Equations for Friction and Local Head Losses along Irrigation Laterals

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2005
In previous analytical approaches, the direct calculation of friction loss along a lateral is usually based on empirical power-form flow resistance equations, such as the Hazen–Williams and Blasius equations. The more generalized Darcy–Weisbach resistance equation is not usually applied since its friction coefficient varies along the lateral.
