Vehicle routing optimization (VRO) designs the best routes to reduce travel cost, energy consumption, and carbon emission. Due to non-deterministic polynomial-time hard (NP-hard) complexity, many VROs involved in real-world applications require too much ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Constraint-based local search for container freight rail scheduling [PDF]
A traditional container rail service is based on regular timetables. This causes a risk that some customers may turn away if their preferred itinerary is not attainable and the take-up of some services in a fixed schedule may be low and therefore not ...

A variable neighborhood search with an effective local search for uncapacitated multilevel lot-sizing problems [PDF]
In this study, we improved the variable neighborhood search (VNS) algorithm for solving uncapacitated multilevel lot-sizing (MLLS) problems. The improvement is two-fold.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Efficiency of Local Search with Multiple Local Optima [PDF]
Summary: The first contribution of this paper is a theoretical investigation of combinatorial optimization problems. Their landscapes are specified by the set of neighborhoods of all points of the search space. The aim of the paper consists of the estimation of the number N of local optima and the distributions of the sizes \((\alpha_j)\) of their ...

CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.
