ESTIMATION OF MINKOWSKI TENSORS FROM DIGITAL GREY-SCALE IMAGES

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2014
It was shown in Svane (2014b) that local algorithms based on grey-scale images sometimes lead to asymptotically unbiased estimators for surface area and integrated mean curvature. This paper extends the results to estimators for Minkowski tensors.

Skin Lesion Segmentation Using Local Binary Convolution-Deconvolution Architecture

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2020
Deep learning techniques such as Deep Convolutional Networks have achieved great success in skin lesion segmentation towards melanoma detection. The performance is however restrained by distinctive and challenging features of skin lesions such as ...

ON THE PRECISION OF THE NUCLEATOR

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2017
The nucleator is a design unbiased method of local stereology for estimating the volume of a bounded object. The only information required lies in the intersection of the object with an isotropic random ray emanating from a fixed point (called the ...

Fear learning increases the number of polyribosomes associated with excitatory and inhibitory synapses in the barrel cortex.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Associative fear learning, resulting from whisker stimulation paired with application of a mild electric shock to the tail in a classical conditioning paradigm, changes the motor behavior of mice and modifies the cortical functional representation of ...

A structural framework for a near-minimal form of life: mass and compositional analysis of the helical mollicute Spiroplasma melliferum BC3.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Spiroplasma melliferum is a wall-less bacterium with dynamic helical geometry. This organism is geometrically well defined and internally well ordered, and has an exceedingly small genome. Individual cells are chemotactic, polar, and swim actively. Their

Use of the gills of Pimelodus maculatus (Lacèpéde, 1803) (Siluriformes, Pimelodidae) as a biomarker of pollution in the reservoir of UHE Marechal Mascarenhas de Moraes, Minas Gerais, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesBiotemas, 2011
The gills of fish are biomarkers of environmental toxicity which are often used to assess the impacts of xenobiotics. This study aims to evaluate the contamination of the reservoir Marechal Mascarenhas de Moraes, through the estimation ofthe rate of ...

Targeting of the class II transactivator attenuates inflammation and neurodegeneration in an alpha-synuclein model of Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2018
Background Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by intracellular alpha-synuclein (α-syn) inclusions, progressive death of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), and activation of the innate and adaptive immune systems ...
