On groups covered by locally nilpotent subgroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Let N be the class of pronilpotent groups, or the class of locally nilpotent profinite groups, or the class of strongly locally nilpotent profinite groups. It is proved that a profinite group G is finite-by-N if and only if G is covered by countably many

The variety generated by order algebras

open access: yes, 2002
Every ordered set can be considered as an algebra in a natural way. We investigate the variety generated by order algebras. We prove, among other things, that this variety is not finitely based and, although locally finite, it is not contained in any ...

Trees, Congruences and Varieties of Finite Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A classification scheme for regular languages or finite semigroups was proposed by Pin through tree hierarchies, a scheme related to the concatenation product, an operation on languages, and to the Schützenberger product, an operation on semigroups ...

Vector Field Heterogeneity for the Assessment of Locally Disorganised Cardiac Electrical Propagation Wavefronts From High-Density Multielectrodes

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Engineering in Medicine and Biology
High-density multielectrode catheters are becoming increasingly popular in cardiac electrophysiology for advanced characterisation of the cardiac tissue, due to their potential to identify impaired sites.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Finite orthodox locally idempotent semigroups having no finite basis of biidentities

open access: yes, 2003
A finitely generated existence variety of orthodox locally idempotent semigroups is constructed which has no finite basis of biidentities within the class of all orthodox semigroups.

Compatibility of Methacrylate Based Resins Controls Interfacial Failure and Toughness in 3D‐Printed Multimaterial Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

Integrated Field‐Free SOT Domain‐Wall Synapses and MTJ Stochastic Neurons for Hardware Boltzmann Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Field‐free spin‐orbit torque domain‐wall synapses integrated with stochastic MTJ neurons enable compact hardware Boltzmann machines. Leveraging intrinsic stochasticity and multi‐level conductance, the system achieves efficient probabilistic learning with high accuracy, demonstrating a scalable spintronic platform for energy‐efficient edge AI.

LOCAL FINITENESS IN VARIETIES OF MS4-ALGEBRAS

open access: yesThe Journal of Symbolic Logic
Abstract It is a classic result of Segerberg and Maksimova that a variety of $\mathsf {S4}$ -algebras is locally finite iff it is of finite depth. Since the logic $\mathsf {MS4}$ (monadic $\mathsf {S4}$ ) axiomatizes the one-variable fragment of ...
