Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves using machine learning and dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Summary Data‐driven forecasting of ship motions in waves is investigated through feedforward and recurrent neural networks as well as dynamic mode decomposition. The goal is to predict future ship motion variables based on past data collected on the field, using equation‐free approaches.

Inclined Surface Locomotion Strategies for Spherical Tensegrity Robots

open access: yes, 2017
This paper presents a new teleoperated spherical tensegrity robot capable of performing locomotion on steep inclined surfaces. With a novel control scheme centered around the simultaneous actuation of multiple cables, the robot demonstrates robust ...

Locomotion of Medusidæ [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1874
I DO not think that the following remarkable observation has hitherto been made—or at least recorded—by anyone ; but as I am at present deprived of access to books, it is possible that I may be mistaken upon this point. It will be observed that it tends experimentally to confirm the opinion of Agassiz, M'Crady, and Fritz Muller, as to the presence of ...

RhoA and Rac1 as Mechanotransduction Mediators in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Analysing RhoA and Rac1 protein levels in Colorectal cancer (CRC) samples under mechanical strain highlights their potential as diagnostic markers. Monitoring their activity could offer valuable insights into how cancer spreads, paving the way for new approaches to better understand and diagnose colorectal cancer.

Development of a Novel Processing Route for Dispersoid/Precipitation‐Strengthened High Conductive Copper Alloys by Using Metalized Nanoceramics in Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.

Opening wedge high tibial osteotomy yields comparable to superior outcomes to unicompartmental knee arthroplasty at 2 years of follow‐up in patients suffering from Ahlbäck III knee osteoarthritis: A propensity score‐matched analysis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics
Purpose To compare the clinical outcomes between opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) in patients with Ahlbäck Grade 3 medial compartmental knee osteoarthritis (OA) using a propensity score matching ...

Body Lift and Drag for a Legged Millirobot in Compliant Beam Environment

open access: yes, 2019
Much current study of legged locomotion has rightly focused on foot traction forces, including on granular media. Future legged millirobots will need to go through terrain, such as brush or other vegetation, where the body contact forces significantly ...

Trans‐Conductive Melt Pool Scaling and its Implications for Parameter Transfer in Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Metals with High Thermal Diffusivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Developing process parameters for the laser‐based Powder Bed Fusion of metals can be a tedious task. Based on melt pool depth, the process parameters are transferable to different laser scan speeds. For this, understanding the melt pool scaling behavior is essential, particularly for materials with high thermal diffusivity, as a change in scaling ...

Kinematics and hydrodynamic performance of zebrafish C-type maneuvers: A comparison of two- and three-dimensional simulations

open access: yesAIP Advances
Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) numerical models are commonly employed to investigate the kinematic and hydrodynamic characteristics of fish maneuvers.
