Modeling trends in cohort survival probabilities [PDF]
A new dynamic parametric model is proposed for analyzing the cohort survival function. A one-factor parameterized polynomial in age effects, complementary log-log link and multinomial cohort responses are utilized, within the generalized linear models ...

Bayesian Additive Regression Trees With Parametric Models of Heteroskedasticity [PDF]
We incorporate heteroskedasticity into Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART) by modeling the log of the error variance parameter as a linear function of prespecified covariates. Under this scheme, the Gibbs sampling procedure for the original sum-of-

Inactivation kinetics of Clostridium sporogenes spores by pulsed electric field (PEF)
The kinetics of inactivation of Clostridium sporogenes spores as a surrogate for the sterilization marker Clostridium botulinum using Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) treatment has not been previously investigated.

Beyond log-linear models [PDF]
Current re-ranking algorithms for machine translation rely on log-linear models, which have the potential problem of underfitting the training data. We present BoostedMERT, a novel boosting algorithm that uses Minimum Error Rate Training (MERT) as a weak learner and builds a re-ranker far more expressive than log-linear models.

The M Dwarf GJ 436 and its Neptune-Mass Planet [PDF]
We determine stellar parameters for the M dwarf GJ 436 that hosts a Neptune-mass planet. We employ primarily spectral modeling at low and high resolution, examining the agreement between model and observed optical spectra of five comparison stars of type,
