Dobinski-type relations and the Log-normal distribution [PDF]
We consider sequences of generalized Bell numbers B(n), n=0,1,... for which there exist Dobinski-type summation formulas; that is, where B(n) is represented as an infinite sum over k of terms P(k)^n/D(k). These include the standard Bell numbers and their

The Log-normal Distribution [PDF]
The purpose of this brief note is to share some very simple observations concerning the log-normal distribution. I have found this distribution useful chiefly for two reasons.

Hutchinsonian Ratios and Log-Normal Distributions [PDF]
It has been proposed that competition among members of a species assemblage leads to constant size ratios among the species ranked in order of average individual size, or to large minimum size ratios (for references, see Simberloff and Boecklen, 1981).

Joint Modeling of Received Power, Mean Delay, and Delay Spread for Wideband Radio Channels [PDF]
We propose a multivariate log-normal distribution to jointly model received power, mean delay, and root mean square (rms) delay spread of wideband radio channels, referred to as the standardized temporal moments. The model is validated using experimental

Demixing in a single-peak distributed polydisperse mixture of hard spheres [PDF]
An analytic derivation of the spinodal of a polydisperse mixture is presented. It holds for fluids whose excess free energy can be accurately described by a function of a few moments of the size distribution.

Quantile-Based Multivariate Log-Normal Distribution
We introduce a quantile-based multivariate log-normal distribution, providing a new multivariate skewed distribution with positive support. The parameters of this distribution are interpretable in terms of quantiles of marginal distributions and associations between pairs of variables, a desirable feature for statistical modeling purposes.

The duration distribution of Swift Gamma-Ray Bursts [PDF]
Decades ago two classes of gamma-ray bursts were identified and delineated as having durations shorter and longer than about 2 s. Subsequently indications also supported the existence of a third class.

The Ellipticity of the Disks of Spiral Galaxies [PDF]
The disks of spiral galaxies are generally elliptical rather than circular. The distribution of ellipticities can be fit with a log-normal distribution.

Bibliometric indicators: the origin of their log-normal distribution and why they are not a reliable proxy for an individual scholar’s talent [PDF]
There is now compelling evidence that the statistical distributions of extensive individual bibliometric indicators collected by a scholar, such as the number of publications or the total number of citations, are well represented by a Log-Normal function

On the shifted hybrid log-normal distribution
Summary: The log-normal distribution is widely used to model positive valued data in many areas of applied research. However, sometimes the log-normal distribution does not completely satisfy the fitting expectations in every real life situations.
