Quantile-Based Multivariate Log-Normal Distribution

open access: yesSymmetry, 2023
We introduce a quantile-based multivariate log-normal distribution, providing a new multivariate skewed distribution with positive support. The parameters of this distribution are interpretable in terms of quantiles of marginal distributions and associations between pairs of variables, a desirable feature for statistical modeling purposes.

The Log-normal Distribution

open access: yes, 1975
The purpose of this brief note is to share some very simple observations concerning the log-normal distribution. I have found this distribution useful chiefly for two reasons. First, it describes a non-negative random variable, such as the time between two events, or the concentration of a pollutant.

Approximations to the Distribution of Weighted Log-Normal Variates [PDF]

open access: yesThe Egyptian Statistical Journal, 1976
This work introduces three different approximations to the distribution of weighted log-normal variates. Numerical methods are used to express the density function as a Gauss-Hermite quadrature and a Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. The third approximation was

Probability Assessment of the Mechanical and Low-Cycle Properties of Structural Steels and Aluminium

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Key mechanical properties used in low-cycle strength and durability calculations are the strength (proportional limit stress, σpr; relative yield strength, σ0.2; and ultimate tensile stress, σu) and strain properties (proportional limit strain, epr ...

Improving the Performance of Turbo-Coded Systems under Suzuki Fading Channels

open access: yesJournal of Low Power Electronics and Applications, 2019
In this paper, the performance of coded systems is considered in the presence of Suzuki fading channels, which is a combination of both short-fading and long-fading channels.

Bayesian inference for Poisson and multinomial log-linear models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Categorical data frequently arise in applications in the social sciences. In such applications, the class of log-linear models, based on either a Poisson or (product) multinomial response distribution, is a flexible model class for inference and ...

Swimming eukaryotic microorganisms exhibit a universal speed distribution

open access: yeseLife, 2019
One approach to quantifying biological diversity consists of characterizing the statistical distribution of specific properties of a taxonomic group or habitat. Microorganisms living in fluid environments, and for whom motility is key, exploit propulsion

Estudo da precipitação efetiva para o município de Lavras, MG Effective rainfall study in the municipality of Lavras, MG

Minimum K-S estimator using PH-transform technique [PDF]

open access: yesSuan Sunandha Rajabhat University Journal of Science and Technology, 2016
In this paper, we propose an improvement of the Minimum Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) estimator using proportional hazards transform (PH-transform) technique. The data of experiment is 47 fire accidents data of an insurance company in Thailand.

Modelling and mapping weekly rainfall for crop planning in north-western Himalayan states

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2021
Modelling and mapping of weekly rainfall was carried out for NW Himalayan states of India for kharif crop planning. Based on the findings of the study it was observed that, J&K states with area coverage of 2.7 m ha witnessed maximum rainy days at 25 SMW ...
