Mis-specification effects on mean and model choice: A comparison of log-normal and log-logistic distributions

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal
The log-normal and log-logistic distributions are frequently used to model positively skewed data. Despite the availability of numerous model selection techniques, the risk of mis-specification between these two closely related models remains substantial.

Evaluation of regression methods for log-normal data - linear models for environmental exposure and biomarker outcomes

open access: yes, 2015
The identification and quantification of associations between variables is often of interest in occupational and environmental research, and regression analysis is commonly used to assess these associations. While exposures and biological data often have

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Towards a methodology for the practical applications of the EIFS (Equivalent Initial Flaw Size) concept

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
This work intends to introduce a probabilistic approach for the crack propagation analysis. It presents a methodology that is based on the distribution of the initial flaw size a0.

Log-normal flux distribution of bright $Fermi$ blazars

open access: yes, 2018
International audienceWe present the results of the γ-ray flux distribution study on the brightest blazars which were observed by Fermi-LAT. We selected 50 of the brightest blazars based on the maximum number of detections reported in the Third LAT AGN ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Ajustes de funções de distribuição de probabilidade à radiação solar global no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul Adjustments of probability distribution functions to global solar radiation in Rio Grande do Sul State

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status
