EESTIMATES OF BEST APPROXIMATIONS OF FUNCTIONS WITH LOGARITHMIC SMOOTHNESS IN THE LORENTZ SPACE WITH ANISOTROPIC NORM

open access: yesUral Mathematical Journal, 2020
In this paper, we consider the anisotropic Lorentz space \(L_{\bar{p}, \bar\theta}^{*}(\mathbb{I}^{m})\) of periodic functions of \(m\) variables. The Besov space \(B_{\bar{p}, \bar\theta}^{(0, \alpha, \tau)}\) of functions with logarithmic smoothness is

Stability of central finite difference schemes for the Heston PDE

open access: yes, 2010
This paper deals with stability in the numerical solution of the prominent Heston partial differential equation from mathematical finance. We study the well-known central second-order finite difference discretization, which leads to large semi-discrete ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

An Approach to Obtain Upper Ergodicity Bounds for Some QBDs with Countable State Space

open access: yesMathematics
Usually, when the computation of limiting distributions of (in)homogeneous (in)finite continuous-time Markov chains (CTMC) has to be performed numerically, the algorithm has to be told when to stop the computation.

ON THE METHOD FOR RECONSTRUCTING THE BOUNDARY CONDITION FOR PARABOLIC LINEAR EQUATIONS

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений. Поволжский регион: Физико-математические науки, 2020
Background. A problem of determination of unknown boundary condition often appears in different fields of physics and technical sciences in cases when direct measuring of field characteristics at some part of the boundary is difficult or even ...

Low Rank Matrix Completion with Exponential Family Noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The matrix completion problem consists in reconstructing a matrix from a sample of entries, possibly observed with noise. A popular class of estimator, known as nuclear norm penalized estimators, are based on minimizing the sum of a data fitting term and

A Thermodynamic 3D Model for the Simulation of Diffusion‐Controlled Alloying Processes in Heterogeneous Material Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical model resulting from irreversible thermodynamics for describing transport processes is introduced, focusing on thermodynamic activity gradients as the actual driving force for diffusion. Implemented in CUDA C++ and using CalPhaD methods for determining the necessary activity data, the model accurately simulates interdiffusion in aluminum ...

The problem of detecting corrosion by an electric measurement revisited [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We establish a logarithmic stability estimate for the problem of detecting corrosion by a single electric measurement. We give a proof based on an adaptation of the method initiated in \cite{BCJ} for solving the inverse problem of recovering the surface ...

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Eigenvalue Problem for Discrete Jacobi–Sobolev Orthogonal Polynomials

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
In this paper, we consider a discrete Sobolev inner product involving the Jacobi weight with a twofold objective. On the one hand, since the orthonormal polynomials with respect to this inner product are eigenfunctions of a certain differential operator,
