Prediction of Structural Stability of Layered Oxide Cathode Materials: Combination of Machine Learning and Ab Initio Thermodynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, we developed a phase‐stability predictor by combining machine learning and ab initio thermodynamics approaches, and identified the key factors determining the favorable phase for a given composition. Specifically, a lower TM ionic potential, higher Na content, and higher mixing entropy favor the O3 phase.

On the Equivalence of Location Choice Models: Conditional Logit, Nested Logit and Poisson [PDF]

open access: yes
It is well understood that the two most popular empirical models of location choice - conditional logit and Poisson - return identical coefficient estimates when the regressors are not individual specific.

Estimating Grouped Data Models with a Binary-Dependent Variable and Fixed Effects via a Logit versus a Linear Probability Model: The Impact of Dropped Units

open access: yesPolitical Analysis, 2019
This letter deals with a very simple question: if we have grouped data with a binary-dependent variable and want to include fixed effects in the specification, can we meaningfully compare results using a linear model to those estimated with a logit?

Non‐Tariff Measures and U.S. Agricultural Exports

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract How much do non‐tariff measures (NTMs) affect U.S. agricultural exports? While countries maintain a large and diverse set of NTMs to safeguard the health of plants, animals, and humans, policymakers and regulatory bodies may neglect the impact these measures have on international trade.

METHODS FOR REFINING ASSESSMENT OF TEST-TAKERS BASED ON ITEM RESPONSE THEORY MODEL

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2011
This research is devoted to assessment methods used in different test systems, including e-learning systems. The methods considered here are based on classical test theory and item response theory (IRT).

Beyond work-life balance: decomposing the gender gap in physical activity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Economics
Despite adjustments in work-life balance and the distribution of household tasks, the gender gap in physical activity remains persistent. Physical activity plans should target the gap’s root causes.

Consistent estimation of the fixed effects ordered logit model

open access: yesSocial Science Research Network, 2015
The paper considers panel data methods for estimating ordered logit models with individual‐specific correlated unobserved heterogeneity. We show that a popular approach is inconsistent, whereas some consistent and efficient estimators are available ...
