Extremely short-length surface plasmon resonance sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The impact of the system design on the control of coupling between planar waveguide modes and surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) is analyzed. We examine how the efficiency of the coupling can be enhanced by an appropriate dimensioning of a multi-layer ...

All-fiber bandwidth tunable ultra-broadband mode converters based on long-period fiber gratings and helical long-period gratings

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
We demonstrated the fabrication of bandwidth tunable ultra-broadband mode converters based on CO2-laser inscribed long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) and helical long-period gratings (HLPGs) in a two-mode fiber (TMF). The simulation and experimental results show that there is a dual-resonance coupling from LP01 to LP11 core mode at the dispersion ...

Long period gratings in photonic crystal fibers [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonic Sensors, 2011
The authors review the recent advances in fabricating long-period gratings (LPGs) in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). The novel light-guiding properties of the PCFs allow the demonstration of novel sensors and devices based on such LPGs. The sensitivity of these PCF LPGs to temperature, strain and refractive index is discussed and compared with LPGs ...

Polarization‐Sensitive Au‐TiO2 Nanopillars for Tailored Plasmonic Enhanced Light‐Driven Reaction Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Manipulating the product generation yield is achieved on a model plasmonic resonance‐driven reaction by tuning the nonthermal effects of localized surface plasmonic resonance on an elliptical Au‐TiO2 nanopillar metasurface. Asymmetric configuration of the elliptical nanopillar array governs the polarization‐dependent optical properties redshifting the ...

A New Setup for Real-Time Investigations of Optical Fiber Sensors Subjected to Gamma-Rays: Case Study on Long Period Gratings

open access: yesSensors, 2020
In this work, we present a new setup for real-time investigations of optical fibers and optical fiber sensors while being subjected to gamma-rays. The investigation of the radiation effects on novel or well-assessed sensing devices has attracted a lot of

New multiplexing scheme for monitoring fiber optic Bragg grating sensors in the coherence domain

open access: yes, 1997
A new multiplexing scheme for monitoring fiber optic Bragg gratings in the coherence domain has been developed. Grating pairs with different grating distances are distributed along a fiber line, and interference between their reflections is monitored ...

Integrated all-optical logic discriminators based on plasmonic bandgap engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Optical computing uses photons as information carriers, opening up the possibility for ultrahigh-speed and ultrawide-band information processing. Integrated all-optical logic devices are indispensible core components of optical computing systems. However,

Mechanically-induced π-shifted long-period fiber gratings

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
A band-pass filter based on mechanically-induced multi-π-shifted long-period fiber gratings is proposed. The pass band width of the filter depends on the number N of the sub-gratings divided by π-shifts in the long-period fiber grating. The depth of the two lateral rejection bands can be changed by the amount of pressure applied to the fiber.

UTact: Underwater Vision‐Based Tactile Sensor with Geometry Reconstruction and Contact Force Estimation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Embedded flexible sensing technologies advance underwater soft robotics, yet most systems still suffer from hysteresis and limited perceptiveness. Instead, vision‐based tactile sensors provide reliable and rapid feedback essential for complex underwater tasks.
