Assessment of Near-Fault Ground Motion Effects on the Fragility Curves of Tall Steel Moment Resisting Frames [PDF]
Nowadays it is common to use the fragility curves in probabilistic methods to determine the collapse probability resulting from an earthquake. The uncertainties exist in intensity and frequency content of the earthquake records are considered as the most

Study on seismic isolation system for long-period ground motion
In this paper, the authors have developed a new type of horizontal seismic isolation system which has large effect of vibration isolation for ordinary earthquakes and suppresses the resonance of the isolation system due to long-period ground motions. This seismic isolation system is composed of coil spring and two slide rails.

Predominant period of the long-period ground motions in the Osaka basin

This paper is aimed at proposing a hysteretic-viscous hybrid (HVH) damper system for tall buildings subjected to long-period pulse-type earthquake ground motions of extremely large amplitudes. The HVH system was introduced for a single-degree-of-freedom (

Simulation of Spatially Correlated Multipoint Ground Motions in a Saturated Alluvial Valley
Based on Biot’s theory, the boundary element method, and spectral representation method, an effective simulation method for multiple-station spatially correlated ground motions on both bedrock and surface is developed, incorporating the spectral density ...

Observations and Modeling of Long‐Period Ground‐Motion Amplification Across Northeast China [PDF]
AbstractBasin resonances can significantly amplify and prolong ground shaking, and accurate site‐amplification estimates are crucial for mitigating potential seismic hazards within metropolitan basins. In this work, we estimate the site amplification of long‐period (2–10 s) ground motions across northeast China for both surface waves and vertically ...

Relationship Between Asperities and Velocity Pulse Generation Mechanism
Near-fault ground motion records often capture instances of pulse-like behavior, where a burst of energy is expressed as large wave amplitude that occur over short time.
