Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

1268 A cbt intervention for long term sickness absence [PDF]

open access: yesWork Disability Prevention and Integration, 2018
Introduction The longer an individual is out of work the less likely that individual will ever return to work. Research has shown that, after six consecutive months of absence an individual has only a 50% chance of returning to work, this falls to 20% after 12 months’ continuous absence and 10% after 24 months’ continuous absence.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Gender differences in sickness absence and the gender division of family responsibilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study investigates possible reasons for the gender difference in sickness absence. We estimate both short- and long-term effects of parenthood in a within-couple analysis based on the timing of parenthood.

Addressing long-term sickness absence: moving beyond disease, illness and work-related factors for effective prevention

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2017
Although only a relatively small percentage of workers report sick for longer than a few days or weeks, it should be noted that long-term sickness absence constitutes the major part of the already substantial costs of sickness absence for companies and ...

Returning and staying connected to work after long-term sickness absence [PDF]

open access: yesOccupational Medicine, 2016
Returning to work (RTW) after long-term sickness absence is a challenge for convalescent workers, co-workers, managers and organizations. Few studies have investigated the post-return phase after long-term sickness absence. To investigate the RTW process as experienced by returning workers, co-workers and managers at an emergency care service and a ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...
