Will Comet ISON (C/2012 S1) Survive Perihelion?

open access: yes, 2013
On 2013 November 28 Comet ISON (C/2012 S1) will pass by the Sun with a perihelion distance of 2.7 solar radii. Understanding the possible outcomes for the comet's response to such a close passage by the Sun is important for planning observational ...

Galactic removal rates for long-period comets

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1990
The accuracy of first-order perturbation theory for long-period comets in a galactic tidal field is examined by comparing the theoretical predictions for changes in perihelion distance to the results of direct numerical integrations. It is found that the first-order theory agrees well with the integrations. 11 refs.

Quality indicators for structure and process in peri‐operative care: a systematic review

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Quality indicators are essential for benchmarking, quality assurance and driving improvement in healthcare. Many indicators exist for peri‐operative care but their relevance and evidence base vary. This systematic review updates a review published 10 years ago.

How to make a comet [PDF]

open access: yes
The primary mandate of NASA is the study of the nature and origin of the solar system. The study of the comets provide information about conditions and processes at the beginning of the solar system.

Extrasolar comets : the origin of dust in exozodiacal disks?

open access: yes, 2016
Comets have been invoked in numerous studies as a potentially important source of dust and gas around stars, but none has studied the thermo-physical evolution, out-gassing rate, and dust ejection of these objects in such stellar systems.

Early long-period comets: their discovery and flux [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2003
By analysing recent comet catalogues, it is found that the flux of long-period comets to the inner solar system has been reasonably constant throughout the last two millennia. There is no evidence of periods of enhanced activity, or comet showers. The acuity of northern hemisphere naked-eye observers throughout the era of pre-telescopic astronomy was ...

What can lithics tell us about food production during the transition to farming? Exploring harvesting practices and cultural changes during the neolithic in Southwest Asia: a view from Qminas (north‐western Syria)

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines the continuity and change in harvesting practices between the Late Pre‐Pottery Neolithic B (LPPNB) and the Early Pottery Neolithic at Qminas, north‐western Levant, through a traceological analysis of flint sickles. By combining qualitative traceological analysis with quantitative functional approaches, we demonstrate that ...

On the Dynamics of Comets in Extrasolar Planetary Systems

open access: yes, 2019
Since very recently, we acquired knowledge on the existence of comets in extrasolar planetary systems. The formation of comets together with planets around host stars now seems evident.

Dynamical history of the observed long-period comets [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2001
We present results of some numerical studies on the dynamical history of a large number of observed long-period comets. In our investigations we include all comets with good quality orbits. We calculated barycentric, original orbital elements for comets at a distance of 250 AU from the Sun and then followed the motion of each comet (elliptic orbits ...

Developing a core outcome set for generalized anxiety disorder during the perinatal period: Identifying core treatment outcomes in perinatal anxiety

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Generalized anxiety disorder during the perinatal period (pGAD) is highly prevalent and associated with adverse outcomes for both mother/birthing person (BP) and child. Yet, most treatment studies rely on researcher‐selected outcomes that may not reflect patient priorities.
