A JWST Study of the Remarkable Oort Cloud Comet C/2017 K2 (PanSTARRS)

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Comets, during their journeys into the inner solar system, deliver volatile gases, organics, and particulates into their comae that provide crucial information for assessing the physicochemical conditions in the outer disk from which they formed. Here we

Long Propagation Periods of Residuals in the Motion of a Comet [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1979
P/Halley In a previous paper (Kiang 1973), I derived a differential equation which governs the behaviour of the residual O - C in the time of perihelion passage of a comet. The work was stimulated by the discovery (Brady 1972) that a long periodicity of about 600 years seemed to be present in the residual for P/Halley.

Primary cardiac T‐cell rich large B‐cell lymphoma causing aortic stenosis with metastasis in a Warmblood

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary An 18‐year‐old Warmblood mare was presented to the Royal Veterinary College Equine Referral Hospital for investigation of progressive periocular and facial swelling, weight loss and tachycardia. Physical examination additionally identified bilateral pansystolic (grade 5/6 basilar left‐sided, 2/6 right‐sided), cardiac murmurs, submandibular ...

Studying Short-Period Comets and Long-Period Comets Detected by WISE/NEOWISE

open access: yes, 2014
The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission surveyed the sky in four infrared wavelength bands (3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22 μm) between January 2010 and February 2011.

Compromised DNA replication in gut cells underlies sensitivity to genotoxic stress in the tardigrade Hypsibius exemplaris

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
DNA damage in the tardigrade Hypsibius exemplaris elicits distinct cellular outcomes depending on replication status. While non‐replicating cells tolerate genotoxic stress, constitutively replicating cells undergo irreversible replication failure upon DNA damage, leading to loss of tissue homeostasis, fat depletion, sterility, and organismal death ...

Optical and Near-infrared Spectroscopy of the Outbursting Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present optical and near-infrared (NIR) observations of the outbursting, Halley-type comet 12P/Pons-Brooks (12P). Three NIR spectra were obtained during two outbursts in 2023 October and November, with the 3 m Infrared Telescope Facility and the ...

EVOLUTIONARY TRACKS OF SHORT-PERIODIC METEOR SWARMS

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
The relations of the meteor streams with comets and asteroids are determined by means of the  physical and dynamic properties of these bodies. The mathematical model is considered for the short-periodic meteor stream, the particles of which are ejected ...

Dust shells and dark linear structures on dust tails of historical and recent long-period comets [PDF]

open access: yes
Context. Dust halos or shells, along with linear dark structures along the axes of dust tails, are commonly observed in many long- period comets near perihelion.

SOHO/SWAN Observations of Short-period Spacecraft Target Comets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
SWAN, the Solar Wind ANisotropies all-sky hydrogen Ly_ camera on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory spacecraft that makes all-sky images of interplanetary neutral hydrogen, has an ongoing campaign to make special observations of comets, both short ...
