Preperihelion Development of Interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We describe preperihelion optical observations of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS taken during 2025 July–September using the Nordic Optical Telescope. Fixed aperture photometry of the comet is well described by a power-law function of heliocentric distance ...

Trabecular bone ontogeny of the human talus

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Studies of trabecular ontogeny may provide insight into the factors that drive healthy bone development. There is a growing understanding of how the juvenile skeleton responds to these influences; however, gaps in our knowledge remain. This study aims to identify ontogenetic trabecular patterns and regional changes during development within ...

Watching a Comet Turn On: High Spectral Resolving Power Observations of Comet C/2017 K2 (PanSTARRS)

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
We report high spectral resolving power optical observations of comet C/2017 K2 (PanSTARRS) as it approached the Sun. This comet was discovered when it was 16 au from the Sun. At discovery, the comet had a large and relatively bright coma.

TNO or Comet? The Search for Activity and Characterization of Distant Object 418993 (2009 MS9)

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
The perihelion of the trans-Neptunian object (TNO) 2009 MS9 brings it close to the distance where some long-period comets are seen to become active.

The Populations of Comet-Like Bodies in the Solar system

open access: yes, 2003
A new classification scheme is introduced for comet-like bodies in the Solar system. It covers the traditional comets as well as the Centaurs and Edgeworth-Kuiper belt objects.

Skeletal pathologies in extant crocodilians as a window into the paleopathology of fossil archosaurs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Crocodilians, together with birds, are the only extant relatives to many extinct archosaur groups, making them highly important for interpreting paleopathological conditions in a phylogenetic disease bracketing model. Despite this, comprehensive data on osteopathologies in crocodilians remain scarce.

The Collisional Evolution of the Primordial Kuiper Belt, Its Destabilized Population, and the Trojan Asteroids

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
The tumultuous early era of outer solar system evolution culminated when Neptune migrated across the primordial Kuiper Belt (PKB) and triggered a dynamical instability among the giant planets.

Hepatotoxicity of Nonesterified Fatty Acids to Dairy Cows: Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Prospective Solutions

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Unregulated inflammation increases non‐esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), and triggers multi‐pathway hepatocyte damage including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic disorders in dairy cows. ABSTRACT Circulating concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) are elevated due to lipid mobilization from adipose tissue in ...

ExploreNEOs VIII: Dormant Short-Period Comets in the Near-Earth Asteroid Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We perform a search for dormant comets, asteroidal objects of cometary origin, in the near-Earth asteroid (NEA) population based on dynamical and physical considerations.

Toxicological Evaluation of the Undesirable Components in Processed Infant Foods Using Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The detection of toxins in baby food using artificial intelligence. ABSTRACT Infant foods and baby formulas are becoming increasingly popular across the globe owing to their ease of consumption and nutritional value specific to infants. Impurities may find their way into the food chain at any point from the acquisition of raw materials to final ...
