Survey on AI‐Enabled Computer Vision Technologies and Applications for Space Robotic Missions

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This survey provides a comprehensive overview of recent advancements and challenges in Artificial Intelligence (AI)‐enabled computer vision (CV) techniques for space robotic missions, spanning critical phases such as Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL), orbital operations, and planetary surface exploration.

Characterization of the Dust and Sodium Tails of Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) from Parker Solar Probe and Amateur Observations

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) reached perihelion on 2020 July 3 at 0.29 au and exhibited a highly structured dust tail. Using a simplified Finson–Probstein model, structures such as striae, observed in the tail in images obtained by the Parker Solar Probe ...

Aligning Real‐Time Recurrence Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations with Plant Data for the Ruhrstahl–Heraeus Degassing Process of Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Uncertainties exist in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of complex metallurgical processes, even when partly validated by laboratory experiments. rCFD enables computationally efficient prediction of long‐term RH degassing and can be adapted to vary flow conditions.

Meteor outbursts from long-period comet dust trails [PDF]

open access: yesIcarus, 2003
Long-period comets have narrow 1-revolution old dust trails that can cause meteor outbursts when encountered by Earth. To facilitate observing campaigns that will characterise and perhaps help find Earth threatening long-period comets from their trace of meteoric debris, we use past accounts of outbursts from 14 different showers to calculate the ...

A Thermodynamic‐Kinetic Model for Basic Oxygen Furnace Tapping: Improved Prediction of Phosphorus and Steel‐Slag Evolution

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study develops a thermodynamic–kinetic model for basic oxygen furnace tapping and validates its accuracy under near‐equilibrium and far‐from‐equilibrium initial conditions. Comparison with a reference model demonstrates its broader applicability. The model further reveals the evolution of key steel and slag components, providing new transparency ...

Modeling Ice and Dust in Comet C/2017 K2 (Pan-STARRS)’s Coma

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
C/2017 K2 (Pan-STARRS) is a long-period comet that has been active since 24 au inbound and likely as far out as 35 au, far beyond where the sublimation of water ice can power cometary activity.

Galactic removal rates for long-period comets

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1990
The accuracy of first-order perturbation theory for long-period comets in a galactic tidal field is examined by comparing the theoretical predictions for changes in perihelion distance to the results of direct numerical integrations. It is found that the first-order theory agrees well with the integrations. 11 refs.

First Assessment of Genetic Damage in the Speckled Cockroach (Nauphoeta cinerea) After Consumption of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) Cultivated and Commercialized in Northeastern, Brazil

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study reports, for the first time, the use of the speckled cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea as a promising bioindicator for genotoxic monitoring. It was validated through control groups (both positive and negative) in addition to testing lettuce (Lactuca sativa ) samples from public street markets consumed by N. cinerea specimens in Pernambuco,

Early long-period comets: their discovery and flux [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2003
By analysing recent comet catalogues, it is found that the flux of long-period comets to the inner solar system has been reasonably constant throughout the last two millennia. There is no evidence of periods of enhanced activity, or comet showers. The acuity of northern hemisphere naked-eye observers throughout the era of pre-telescopic astronomy was ...

Micronuclei and Other Nuclear Abnormalities in Patella Limpet as Biomarkers of Cytogenotoxicity in Recreational Port Waters

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the past decades, the growth in human population and economic activities has led to an increase in maritime traffic. This rise puts additional pressure on marine environments, vessel fuel spills being considered to have a major impact on the ecosystem.
