Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Compact eccentric long period grating with improved sensitivity in low refractive index region

open access: yes, 2017
We demonstrate a compact eccentric long period grating with enhanced sensitivity in low refractive index region. With a period designed at 15 mu m for coupling light to high order cladding modes, the grating is more sensitive to surrounding refractive ...

Application of Robust, Packaged Long-Period Fiber Grating for Strain Measurement

open access: yesMicromachines, 2016
This paper proposes an optical fiber strain sensor based on packaged long-period fiber gratings (PLPFG) which is fabricated by the micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) process and packaged with poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer materials.

A fuzzy neural network model to determine axial strain measured by a long-period fiber grating sensor

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 2020
The paper reports an adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system for the measurement of axial strain using long-period fiber grating sensors. The long-period fiber grating sensor supports optical resonances, which are sensitive to the change of axial ...

Investigation of Grating-Assisted Trimodal Interferometer Biosensors Based on a Polymer Platform

open access: yesSensors, 2018
A grating-assisted trimodal interferometer biosensor is proposed and numerically analyzed. A long period grating coupler, for adjusting the power between the fundamental mode and the second higher order mode, is investigated, and is shown to act as a ...
