Nonlinear Damping of Longitudinal Ion Modes

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1971
The nonlinear damping rate of an ion mode in an infinite, homogeneous plasma is calculated for [Formula: see text] by means of the Vlasov–Poisson system (Te and T1 indicate the electron and ion temperature, respectively). It is found that after the well-known linear stage [[Formula: see text], τe ≡ (m/eAk)1/2; A ≡ amplitude of the mode at t = 0], a ...

Efficient single-longitudinal-mode Nd:YAG laser

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1972
A continuous TEM 00 power of more than \frac{1}{2} W has been obtained from a single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) Nd:YAG laser pumped with a 1-kW tungsten-iodine lamp. Spatial hole burning, the cause of multilongitudinal mode (MLM) oscillation, was eliminated by placing the rod between two quarter-wave plates.

III Single-Longitudinal-Mode Semiconductor Lasers

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) semiconductor lasers. The use of single-mode fibers has eliminated the problem of modal noise. The chapter reviews the recent progress in the field of SLM semiconductor lasers. The physics of semiconductor lasers is discussed and the material system and the structure commonly

Longitudinal Mode Spectrum of Lasing Emission

1988
The spectra of laser diodes may differ considerably from one another as we have already illustrated in Fig. 2.19. Since this book also considers how such spectra are altered due to modulation, one should first understand the spectral characteristics when the laser diodes are cw-operated.

Longitudinal Mode Control in Laser Diodes

1989
The most interesting feature of light emitted from lasers is its coherence. Research on laser diodes (LDs) has been aimed at improving the quality of the light as well as improving electrical properties, for instance, reducing the threshold current.
