Longitudinal and transverse localized vibration modes

Solid State Communications, 1969
Abstract In the presence of a finite concentration of impurities, each of which in isolation gives rise to triply degenerate localized vibration modes, a Lorentz field and macroscopic field are set up by the collective oscillations of the impurities vibrating in localized modes.

Perception of longitudinal components in piano string vibrations

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010
This paper investigates the audibility of longitudinal components in piano string vibrations with listening tests. The recorded fortissimo sounds of two grand and one upright pianos have been resynthesized with and without longitudinal components and used in ABX type listening tests.

Longitudinal vibrations of a composite bar

Broadband multi-resonant longitudinal vibrator transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
A broadband longitudinal vibrator transducer having a laminar head mass section including at least three layers coupled to electromechanical transducer elements. The head section includes a forward head mass, a compliant member abutting the forward head mass and a rear head mass abutting both the compliant member and the transducer elements.

Longitudinal Vibration of Internally Damped Rods

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1964
The response to sinusoidal vibration of single and coupled systems of internally damped rods has been determined theoretically. Analysis of the vibration of uniform and exponentially tapered rods has usually been simplified by the assumption that the lateral dimensions of the rods are small in comparison with the wavelength.

Longitudinal and Screw Vibrations of Beams

Nature, 1955
RAYLEIGH'S method has been applied recently by us to examine the modes of vibration of beams and the relationships between the modes. One result of some interest is the interference with the fundamental modes of two types of oscillation which we have called ‘screw vibrations’.

A doubly resonant longitudinal vibrator transducer

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1986
The conventionally designed longitudinal vibrator transducer consisting of a double-mass-loaded active material stack is widely used in both single element and array configurations. This device, commonly called a “tonpilz” transducer, is well suited for operation at frequencies near its longitudinal resonance; however practical considerations normally ...

Longitudinal Vibrations of a Drill String

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1965
When drilling an oil well with a rotary drill, the penetration rate often can be substantially increased by superimposing a vibratory motion on the rotating bit. In order to evaluate drilling methods that would include both rotary and vibratory action, a study has been made on the vibrational characteristics of long drill string. The resonant frequency
