Numerical Study of Surface Flow for Ahmed Body in Crosswind Conditions

open access: yesAutomotive Experiences
This study investigates standard vehicles' flow behavior and drag during crosswind conditions by a numerical approach. The model is a half-scaled Ahmed body with a slant angle of 25°. Reynolds Average Navier-Stokes equations with turbulent model k-ω SST

Application of laser velocimetry to aircraft wake-vortex measurements [PDF]

open access: yes
The theory and use of a laser velocimeter that makes simultaneous measurements of vertical and longitudinal velocities while rapidly scanning a flow field laterally are described, and its direct application to trailing wake-vortex research is discussed ...

Spectrally-broadened femtosecond vortex beams in air with longitudinal pressure distribution

open access: yesOptics Express
The spectral broadening of femtosecond vortex beams in air with different longitudinal pressure distributions is studied numerically. By introducing a symmetrical pressure distribution, a sufficiently broadened spectrum while preserving vortex characteristics of the beam for different input energies can be generated.

Heat transfer enhancement in air channel by longitudinal vortexes

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Physical-technical series
Numerical investigation of heat transfer is carried out in an air channel of the rectangular cross section (0.005 × 0.031) m with the length of 0.175 m. The lower surface of the channel is uniformly heated up to 343 K, and the air flow temperature at the channel entrance is 293 K. Two flow rates Q = 0.0010044 and 0.00209 m3/s are considered.

Methods for Prediction of Leading Aircraft Wake Vortex Hazard Zone Based on Receiving ADS‑B In Data

open access: yesNanjing Hangkong Hangtian Daxue Xuebao
To address the risk management requirements of wake vortex encounters during following aircraft operations, this study proposes an airborne prediction method for wake vortex hazard zones using flight dynamic data of leading aircraft received through ...

Adaptive Separation Control System Using Vortex Generator Jets for Time-Varying Flow

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2008
Flow separation is mostly an undesirable phenomenon and boundary layer control is an important technique for flow separation problems on airfoils and in diffusers.

Transverse and Longitudinal Energy Flows in a Sharp Focus of Vortex and Cylindrical Vector Beams

open access: yesApplied Sciences
It is shown in this work that, with strong focusing of a beam with optical vortex and circular polarization, three energy flows take place in the focal plane: direct longitudinal, reverse longitudinal and azimuthal transverse flows. Calculations are made
