A Novel Human Cellular System for Studying Normal Aging and for Anti‐Aging Discovery

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study introduces a human cellular aging model using placental trophoblasts (hTSC‐STBs) that mimics key aging features like senescence and genomic instability. It aligns with human tissue aging and responds to anti‐aging treatments, offering a scalable platform to screen potential therapies and bridge lab findings to clinical applications ...

A complex network perspective on brain disease

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 1, Page 364-399, February 2026.
ABSTRACT If brain anatomy and dynamics have a complex network structure as it has become standard to posit, it is reasonable to assume that such a structure should play a key role not only in brain function but also in brain dysfunction. However, exactly how network structure is implicated in brain damage and whether at least some pathologies can be ...

Assessing Cardiac Mechanical Dysfunction in Transfusion‐Dependent β‐Thalassemia With History of Atrial Fibrillation: The Role of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography

open access: yesEchocardiography, Volume 43, Issue 2, February 2026.
Transfusion dependent β‐thalassemia patients with history of atrial fibrillation (AF) had lower values of global longitudinal strain and peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) and showed higher prevalence of both left ventricular and atrial mechanical dysfunction. PALS was associated with high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of AF.

Can ammonia scavenging treat MASLD? Evaluating the evidence for L‐ornithine L‐aspartate—A systematic review

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Introduction While hyperammonemia is traditionally associated with decompensated cirrhosis, emerging evidence suggests that disturbances in nitrogen homeostasis contribute to disease progression in earlier stages of steatohepatitis and fibrosis.
