Mussel‐Inspired Molecular Strategies for Fabricating Functional Materials With Underwater Adhesion and Self‐Healing Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines the nanomechanical mechanisms of mussel‐inspired molecular interactions, primarily investigated by direct force measurement techniques such as surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy. The macroscopic adhesive and self‐healing performances of mussel‐inspired functional materials, including coacervates ...

Gluing polyhedra with entanglement in loop quantum gravity [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2018
In a spin-network basis state, nodes of the graph describe unentangled quantum regions of space, quantum polyhedra. In this paper we show how entanglement between intertwiner degrees of freedom enforces gluing conditions for neighboring quantum polyhedra.

Ultra‐High Sensitivity, Wide‐Range Thermometry Based on High‐Quality Microscale Diamond Resonators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By combing high‐crystal quality single‐crystal diamond MEMS cantilevers with multi‐mode resonance, the groundbreaking microscale ultra‐high sensitivity ≈22 nK Hz−1/2 and resolution of 100 µK thermometry is achieved. The diamond MEMS thermometry can operate over a wide temperature range from 6.5 to 380 K. This work underscores diamond MEMS resonators as

Loop Quantum Gravity

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Relativity, 1998
The problem of finding the quantum theory of the gravitational field, and thus understanding what is quantum spacetime, is still open. One of the most active of the current approaches is loop quantum gravity. Loop quantum gravity is a mathematically well-

Nanoarchitectonics of Metal–Organic Framework and Nanocellulose Composites for Multifunctional Environmental Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoscale metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and nanocellulose composites have significant potential for the multi‐functional remediation of the environment. This review focused on the synthesis strategies (in situ growth, ex situ growth, and other approaches), typical forms (aerogel, hydrogel, beads, and membrane), and applications in the removal of ...

Big Crunch Avoidance in k = 1 Semi-Classical Loop Quantum Cosmology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
It is well known that a closed universe with a minimally coupled massive scalar field always collapses to a singularity unless the initial conditions are extremely fine tuned. We show that the corrections to the equations of motion for the massive scalar
