Temperature dependence of core loss in cobalt substituted Ni-Zn-Cu ferrites

open access: yes, 2010
The temperature dependence of core loss in cobalt substituted Ni-Zn-Cu ferrites was investigated. Co2+ ions are known to lead to a compensation of the magneto-crystalline anisotropy in Ni-Zn ferrites, at a temperature depending on the cobalt content and ...

Loss of the ‘azoospermia factor’ (AZF) on Yq in man is not associated with loss of HYA

open access: yesHuman Molecular Genetics, 1993
We have typed 9 EBV cell lines from azoospermic or severely oligospermic patients for the expression of H-Y antigen, in order to test the hypothesis of the coincidence of AZF and HYA genes. Of nine patients with cytogenetically normal Y chromosomes, 7 could be tested for HYA expression and of these 6 were H-Y positive.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Anti-Factor XII Autoantibodies in Patients with Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Recognize the Second Epidermal Growth Factor–Like Domain

open access: yesTH Open, 2019
Summary Background Factor XII (FXII) deficiency and autoantibodies that bind to FXII (anti-FXII) have been described in patients with adverse pregnancy outcomes, including recurrent pregnancy loss.

Simultaneously imaging of dielectric properties and topography in a PbTiO_3 crystal by near-field scanning microwave microscopy

open access: yes, 2000
We use a near-field scanning microwave microscope to simultaneously image the dielectric constant, loss tangent, and topography in a PbTiO_3 crystal. By this method, we study the effects of the local dielectric constant and loss tangent in the geometry ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Optimization and performance calculation of dual-rotation propellers [PDF]

open access: yes
An analysis is given which enables the design of dual-rotation propellers. It relies on the use of a new tip loss factor deduced from T. Theodorsen's measurements coupled with the general methodology of C. N. H. Lock.

Radiative and Collisional Jet Energy Loss in a Quark-Gluon Plasma

open access: yes, 2008
We calculate radiative and collisional energy loss of hard partons traversing the quark-gluon plasma created at RHIC and compare the respective size of these contributions.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
