Network Traffic Modeling and Packet-Loss Probability Approximation

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2006
In this paper, on the basis of real network traffic analysis, we undertake an attempt to investigate statistical properties of the network process and design an adequate model that can be used for network performance estimation.

Computation of Loss-of-Load Probability

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1976
When the reliability of an electric power system is evaluated by the Loss-of-Load Probability (LOLP) method, it is customary to take into account the uncertainty in load forecasts by associating a peak-load distribution (as a parameter expressing the uncertainty) with the assumed daily peak-load duration curve, then to compute the unconditional LOLP as

Natural Catastrophe Probable Maximum Loss

British Actuarial Journal, 2002
ABSTRACTThe procedure for estimating probable maximum loss (PML) for natural catastrophes has evolved over the past few decades from a rather simplistic deterministic basis to a more sophisticated methodology based on loss exceedance probability curves, generated using catastrophe modelling software.

Surface loss probability of atomic oxygen

Vacuum, 2012
Abstract Measurements of surface loss probabilities of oxygen atoms on Simax glass, PET, Teflon, and Mica at room temperature are presented. The surface loss probability was measured by using a stationary afterglow double pulse discharge technique. The main discharge pulse created oxygen atoms by dissociation of O 2 molecules.

On the convexity of loss probabilities

Journal of Applied Probability, 2002
For the M/G/c loss system, it is well known that Erlang's loss probability is convex in the number of servers. We extend this result firstly to renewal arrivals and exponential service, then to regenerative arrivals and exponential service, and finally to an arbitrary arrival process with i.i.d. service times that are independent of the arrival process.

On the probable maximum loss

Blätter der DGVFM, 1990
In some nonlife insurance branches the probable maximum loss is of great importance for judging a given risk or a given collective of risks. In the present paper, the author gives a general mathematical definition and a new practicable calculation method for the probable maximum loss.

Probable autosomal dominant optic atrophy with hearing loss

Ophthalmic Paediatrics and Genetics, 1985
The seventh family manifesting an entity described as automosal dominant optic atrophy with hearing loss is reported here. This disorder shows great inter- and intrafamilial variation in the onset time and the degree of loss of both vision and hearing. Unlike autosomal dominant optic atrophy without hearing loss, it appears to be associated with a red ...

Convexity of Loss Probabilities

2007
In this chapter, we discuss convexity of loss probabilities of a general class of stochastic loss models. Convexity of loss probabilities is identical to concavity of the service level of a stochastic system.
