Blocking probabilities for large multirate erlang loss systems
Advances in Applied Probability, 1993This paper is concerned with the computation of asymptotic blocking probabilities for a generalized Erlangian system which results whenMindependent Poisson streams of traffic with ratesaccess a trunk group ofCcircuits with traffic from streamkrequiringAkcircuits which are simultaneously held and released after a time which is randomly distributed with ...

Gain–Loss Asymmetry in Experiential Probability Discounting
The Psychological Record, 2020Probability discounting is loss in reinforcer value as a function of uncertainty. In typical tasks measuring probability discounting, participants repeatedly choose between a smaller, certain amount and a larger amount at one of several probabilities, and do not experience the outcome they select.

Admission control is one of the key functions performed by the management of services and network resources in order to guarantee the QoS requirements of different types of traffic flows. In the case of non-elastic traffic streams, the admission control is typically based on a formula derived by assuming that the traffic aggregate may be approximated ...

More on the probable maximum loss
Blätter der DGVFM, 1994Summary: A previous work of the author [ibid. 19, No. 3, 201-205 (1990; Zbl 0693.62087)] is continued. Some important statements on the general probable maximum loss (PML) are sketched and in the main part the general asymptotic probable maximum loss (APML) is introduced. Some typical results on the APML are presented and discussed.

Estimating probable maximum loss from a Cascadia tsunami
Natural Hazards, 2009The Cascadia margin is capable of generating large magnitude seismic-tsunami. We use a 1:500 year tsunami hazard flood layer produced during a probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment as the input to a pilot study of the vulnerability of residential and commercial buildings in Seaside, OR, USA.

Evaluation of packet loss probability in Bluetooth networks
2002 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Proceedings. ICC 2002 (Cat. No.02CH37333), 2003We provide a closed-form expression for the packet loss probability in Bluetooth networks accounting for capture effects due to propagation losses. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is assessed comparing the analytical results with those obtained from Monte Carlo simulations.

Probability weighting and loss aversion in futures hedging
Journal of Financial Markets, 2008We analyze how the introduction of probability weighting and loss aversion in a futures hedging model affects decision making. Analytical findings indicate that probability weighting alone always affects optimal hedge ratios, while loss and risk aversion only have an impact when probability weighting exists.

Estimating Multinomial Cell Probabilities Under Quadratic Loss
The Statistician, 1989For estimating the cell probabilities of a multinomial distribution, a quadratic loss function based on the intrinsic differences among the categories is introduced. Such loss functions include many commonly used losses as special cases and can be interpreted as divergence measures induced by quadratic entropy.

Expected Loss Balance of Probability Theorem
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2007This paper shows how for every Contingent Loss whose associated probability fails the Balance of Probability test, there is a corresponding Expected Loss whose probability passes the Balance of Probability test and so constitutes a preferable head of damage for a civil claim. Recent English Mesothelioma and Asbestos-related judgements including Gregg v
