Imaging of Low-Gradient Severe Aortic Stenosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Although most patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) have high peak velocity and mean transvalvular gradient, there is a subset of patients with low-flow, low-gradient severe AS (LGSAS).

Postprandial Changes in Thoracic Aortic Flow Detected by 4D Flow MRI May Influence Study Results

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 64, Issue 4, Page 898-905, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background While there is a growing body of data using 4D flow MRI to distinguish between normal and abnormal blood flow values in the thoracic aorta, the extent of physiological variation or lack thereof is potentially undervalued. Physiological processes such as postprandial changes to hemodynamics might influence data, normal values, follow‐

Surgical Versus Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement in Low-Flow, Low-Gradient Aortic Stenosis: Results From 1900 Patients

open access: yesThe Heart Surgery Forum
Background: Low-flow, low-gradient (LFLG) aortic stenosis (AS) is associated with high-risk physiology and poor outcomes; however, the optimal intervention strategy, surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) versus transcatheter aortic ...

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
NETs as integrated effectors in the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease continuum. Activated neutrophils release NETs that promote endothelial injury, thrombo‐inflammation, and plaque destabilization throughout atherosclerotic disease progression. Created with BioRender.com.

Fourier Shell Analysis: k‐Space‐Based Metrics for Assessing Super‐Resolution in 4D Flow MRI

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 4, Page 1983-1990, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To support the emerging field of super‐resolution (SR) in 4D flow MRI by proposing Fourier shell analysis to disentangle resolution enhancement from denoising effects during evaluation. Methods A thoracic aortic 4D flow MRI dataset was synthesized with various degrees of stenosis, providing ground truth flow fields generated using ...

Changes and Prognostic Implications of Myocardial Work in Aortic Stenosis Subtypes Undergoing Transcatheter Valve Implantation

open access: yesJACC: Advances
Background: Evaluation of left ventricle (LV) systolic function in patients with aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is challenging, as LV ejection fraction (LVEF) and global longitudinal strain are afterload ...

Contemporary Outcomes in Low‐Gradient Aortic Stenosis Patients Who Underwent Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Detection of flow reserve (FR) by dobutamine stress echocardiography is used for risk stratification in low‐gradient aortic stenosis (AS).

Mitochondrial Fusion and Fission in Age‐Related Cardio‐Cerebral Diseases: Mechanisms and Interventions

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
Mitochondrial fission‐fusion imbalance contributes to age‐related cardio‐cerebral diseases like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Cerebral Infarction, Arteriosclerosis, Myocardial Infarction, Cardiac valve disease, Hypertension, and Cardiomyopathy. This review summarizes its regulatory mechanisms and interventions.

Early Multicenter Outcomes of Dedicated Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement for Left Ventricular Assist Device‐Associated Pure Aortic Regurgitation

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 10, Page 1427-1433, October 2026.
LVAD‐associated aortic regurgitation impairs circulatory support, with limited surgical and off‐label options. In a multicenter registry (n = 30), the AR‐dedicated JenaValve Trilogy TAVR eliminated AR, achieving 96.7% (29/30) technical success and 93.3% (28/30) device success (VARC‐3), with 3.3% (1/30) 30‐day mortality.
