FAMILIAL TRENDS IN LOW BIRTH WEIGHT [PDF]
The reproductive performance of sisters and sisters-in-law of 185 women who had delivered "light-for-dates" and "premature expulsion" low birth weight infants was studied. Percentile birth weights were compared taking into account length of gestation, fetal sex, and the height, weight, parity, and smoking habits of the mother.

Promoting Human Milk and Breastfeeding for the Very Low Birth Weight Infant
Provision of mother’s own milk for hospitalized very low birth weight (VLBW) (≤1500 g) infants in the NICU provides short- and long-term health benefits. Mother’s own milk, appropriately fortified, is the optimal nutrition source for VLBW infants.

Regression discontinuity design in perinatal epidemiology and birth cohort research [PDF]
Regression discontinuity design (RDD) is a quasi-experimental approach to study the causal effects of an intervention/treatment on later health outcomes. It exploits a continuously measured assignment variable with a clearly defined cut-off above or below which the population is at least partially assigned to the intervention/treatment. We describe the

Low birth weight and its associated risk factors: Health facility-based case-control study

Same environment, stratified impacts? Air pollution, extreme temperatures, and birth weight in south China [PDF]
This paper investigates whether associations between birth weight and prenatal ambient environmental conditions--pollution and extreme temperatures--differ by 1) maternal education; 2) children's innate health; and 3) interactions between these two. We link birth records from Guangzhou, China, during a period of high pollution, to ambient air pollution
