Initiation from Low Cycle Fatigue to Gigacycle Fatigue

This paper is devoted to the initiation of fatigue crack in Armco iron from low cycle fatigue to gigacycle fatigue. It is shown that the basic mechanisms of initiation are very similar from a physical point of view: PSB and Grain boundary cracking. But the mechanical aspect is specific in LCF and in GCF.

Frequency effects in low-cycle fatigue

The phenomenon of low-cycle fatigue was investigated with total strain ranges from 1 to 2 pct and frequencies from 0.2 to 100 cpm. Changes in endurance life under varying strain and frequency conditions were determined. During the endurance tests moment and strain values were recorded.
