Spectroscopic studies of myoglobin at low pH: heme structure and ligation

Biochemistry, 1991
We explore heme structure and ligation subsequent to a low-pH conformational transition in sperm whale myoglobin. Below pH 4.0, the iron-histidine bond breaks in metMb and deoxyMb. In MbCO, the majority of the iron-histidine bonds remain intact down to pH 2.6; however, the observation of a weak Fe-CO mode at 526 cm-1 indicates that a small fraction of ...

High and Low Inferior Mesenteric Artery Ligation

2017
The inferior mesenteric artery supplies the descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum, and the competent surgeon must decide whether a high or low ligation should be performed before proceeding with its ligation. The decision requires technical, anatomic, and oncologic reasoning to inform the surgeon and will depend on the location and extent of ...

Ligation of patent ductus arteriosus in very low birth weight infants

The American Journal of Surgery, 1981
Twenty-five low birth weight, premature neonates who were refractory to aggressive medical management underwent ligation of symptomatic patent ductus arteriosus. The mean birth weight was 1,007 g and the mean gestational age 29 weeks. Six patients (24 percent) died before discharge, two from continued cardiorespiratory failure.

Low Catalase Activity in Rats with Ureteral Ligation: Relation to Lipid Peroxidation

Nephron Experimental Nephrology, 1998
Progression of some renal diseases is characterized by generation of reactive oxygen metabolites that are also involved in the pathophysiology of obstructive nephropathy. Catalase activity and lipid peroxidation were investigated in rats with unilaterally (UUL) and bilaterally ligated ureters (BUL).

LOW THORACIC DUCT LIGATION FOR POSTOPERATIVE CHYLOUS EFFUSIONS IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1977
Three patients aged from three months to six years underwent thoracic duct ligation at the level of the diaphragm for chylothorax which occurred following cardiac operations. Another three‐month‐old patient underwent thoracic duct ligation for massive postoperative chylopericardium. Indications for operation were a large recurrent chyle accumulation or

Investigation of the Low Frequency Dynamics of Sulfur Ligated Heme Proteins

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
CBS is a pyridoxal-5’-phosphate-dependent enzyme with cysteine and histidine axial ligands that catalyzes the condensation of serine and homocysteine to form cystathionine. Normal coordinate structural decomposition (NSD)[1,2] of the ferric CBS crystal structures predicts the enhancement of normal modes with significant heme “doming”, “ruffling”, and ...

A hybridization-based approach for quantitative and low-bias single-stranded DNA ligation

Analytical Biochemistry, 2013
Single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) ligation is a crucial step in many biochemical assays. Efficient ways of carrying out this reaction, however, are lacking. We show here that existing ssDNA ligation methods suffer from slow kinetics, poor yield, and severe nucleotide preference.

[Changes in semen after low inguinal spermatic vein ligation].

Harefuah, 1996
We examined semen characteristics of 128 patients prior to low-inguinal, spermatic vein ligation for varicocele and every 2 or 3 months over the course of a year. There was a higher sperm count 26 months after surgery, and after 68 months improved motility and a higher proportion of sperm with normal morphology.
