ABSTRACT Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) can deliver unparalleled performance for future neuromorphic computing applications. Such neuromorphic PICs require a large number of tunable switches, which are typically realized with current‐controlled heaters, resulting in considerable energy consumption.

Particle Energization at a High Mach Number Perpendicular Shock: 1D Particle-in-cell Simulations
In this paper, we use a 1D particle-in-cell simulation code to study particle preaccelerations at a high Mach number perpendicular shock. Our simulation results show that almost all of the injected particles can be reflected at the shock front, and then ...

Engineering an Optogenetic pH‐Modulator in Bacteria
ABSTRACT Cells in many naturally occurring organisms routinely cooperate to control their extracellular pH in a dynamic and reversible manner, but this capability has been underexplored in synthetic biology. Here, we sought to engineer a microbial system that switches between two states —high and low extracellular pH— with minimal human intervention ...

Scattering of Ions at a Rippled Shock
In a collisionless shock the energy of the directed flow is converted to heating and acceleration of charged particles, and to magnetic compression. In low-Mach number shocks the downstream ion distribution is made of directly transmitted ions. In higher-

Effects of Periodic Incoming Wakes on the Aerodynamics of a High-Speed Low-Pressure Turbine Cascade
The influence of unsteady wakes incoming from the upstream stages is of high relevance in modern high-speed, low-pressure turbines (LPT) operating at transonic exit Mach numbers and low Reynolds numbers for their potential to trigger transition and ...

Photonic‐Enabled Energy‐Efficient Transparent Neuromorphic Computing Devices: A Review
Transparent photonic neuromorphic computing devices merge optics and brain‐inspired computing to overcome von Neumann bottlenecks with ultrafast, low‐energy processing. By exploiting transparent oxides, 2D materials, phase‐change materials, and hybrid heterostructures, these platforms enable photonic synapses, memory, and logic for see‐through edge ...

Numerical Investigation on Effect of Divergent Angle in Convergent-Divergent Rocket Engine Nozzle
In rocket, a nozzle is used to control mass flow rate, velocity distribution and pressure of the exhaust gas that emerges out from the combustion chamber. The nozzle is used to alchemize the chemical and thermal energy generated in the combustion chamber

During the main phase of many magnetic storms the solar wind Mach number is low and IMF magnitude is large. Under these conditions, the ionospheric potential saturates, and it becomes relatively insensitive to further increases in the IMF magnitude.

Low Mach number limit for the quantum hydrodynamics system [PDF]
In this paper we deal with the low Mach number limit for the system of quantum-hydrodynamics, far from the vortex nucleation regime. More precisely, in the framework of a periodic domain and ill-prepared initial data we prove strong convergence of the solutions towards regular solutions of the incompressible Euler system.
