Twins Among the Low Mass Spectroscopic Binaries

open access: yes, 2008
We report an analysis of twins of spectral types F or later in the 9th Catalog of Spectroscopic Binaries (SB9). Twins, the components of binaries with mass ratio within 2% of 1.0, are found among the binaries with primaries of F and G spectral type. They

The clinical eficacy of vitamin D in children with primary low bone mass [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, 2011
Introduction: Vitamin D suplementation in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis is a widely accepted standard, but the latest studies show the necessity of increasing the intake of this vitamin to keep its concetration on higher levels ?

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

On Pulsar-Driven Mass Ejection in Low-Mass X-ray Binaries

open access: yes, 2011
There is accumulating evidence for mass ejection in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) driven by radio pulsar activity during X-ray quiescence. In this paper we consider the condition for mass ejection by comparing the radiation pressure from a millisecond ...

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Study of Mg–Al–Ca magnesium alloy ameliorated with designed Al8Mn4Gd phase

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2020
To investigate the effect of Al8Mn4Gd phase on microstructural and mechanical properties of Mg–Al–Ca magnesium alloy, two Mg–2.5Al2Ca and Mg–2.5Al2Ca-0.1Al8Mn4Gd alloys were designed and compared in this work.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Low-mass contact binaries: orbital stability at extreme low mass ratios

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society
ABSTRACT With the ever-increasing number of light-curve solutions of contact binary systems, an increasing number of potential bright red nova progenitors are being reported. There remains, however, only one confirmed event. In this study, we undertake a comprehensive review of the orbital stability of contact binary systems, considering
