Vortical Structures in High-Reynolds-Number Jet Indicating Edgetone Oscillation

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
Coherent vortical structures in a high-Reynolds number turbulent jet indicating edgetone oscillations are extracted from velocity and pressure data. Three statistical quantities are adopted as the candidate indicators of coherent structures; (i) phase ...

A Wireless and Passive Low-Pressure Sensor [PDF]

open access: yesSensors, 2014
This paper will discuss the results obtained with a first prototype of a completely passive and wireless low pressure sensor. The device is a heat conductivity gauge, based on a wireless and passive SAW temperature sensor. The required heating energy is applied to the sensor using inductive coupling.

Preliminary Investigations on Low-Pressure Laminar Plasma Spray Processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The usual plasma spraying methods often involve entrainment of the surrounding air into the turbulent plasma core and result in coated materials having relatively high porosity and low adhesive strength.

Time-resolved low-pressure air-assisted spray performance and unsteadiness evaluation

open access: yes, 2023
The main advantages of air-assisted spray are its high-quality atomization at low injection pressures and insensitivity to the viscosity of atomized liquid.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Pressure Drop in Capsule Transporting Bends Carrying Spherical Capsules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
One of the most important parameters in designing a capsule transporting pipeline is the pressure drop in the pipes carrying capsules and associated pipe fittings such as bends etc.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The EPICure study : growth and blood pressure at 6 years of age following extremely preterm birth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background: Preterm children are at risk for reduced growth in early childhood, which may predispose them to later changes in blood pressure. We studied growth and blood pressure (BP) in extremely preterm (EP) children at age 6 years.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
