Design, Development, and Characterization of a Low Velocity Impact System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
This paper introduces low-velocity impacts (LVI), presents a concept for evaluating them, tests various materials for proof-of-concept, and discusses how the machine could be used in future university projects as well as how it could be improved.

Damage accumulation and failure mechanism of glass/epoxy composite laminates subjected to repeated low velocity impacts

open access: yese-Polymers, 2023
In this work, the damage accumulation and failure mechanism of glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composite laminates under repeated low velocity impacts were studied considering the influence of stacking sequence.

Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Detection and Characterization of Long-Pulse Low-Velocity Impact Damage in Plastic Bonded Explosives

open access: yes, 2005
Damage not only degrades the mechanical properties of explosives, but also influences the shock sensitivity, combustion and even detonation behavior of explosives. The study of impact damage is crucial in the vulnerability evaluation of explosives.

Enhanced Infrared Image Processing for Impacted Carbon/Glass Fiber-Reinforced Composite Evaluation

open access: yesSensors, 2017
In this paper, an infrared pre-processing modality is presented. Different from a signal smoothing modality which only uses a polynomial fitting as the pre-processing method, the presented modality instead takes into account the low-order derivatives to ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

A study on the energy dissipation of several different CFRP-based targets completely penetrated by a high velocity projectile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The threat of fragmenting munitions from MANPADS to civilian and military aircraft has, in recent years, become an ever increasing worry. One of the ways to enhance the protection of CFRP-based composites is to add lightweight materials that can provide ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Experimental and numerical study of AA5086-H111 aluminum plates subjected to impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
An experimental and numerical study of medium-velocity impact (within the range of 120 m/s) has been conducted on thin AA5086-H111 aluminum square plates. Targets with different thicknesses (between 2.5 and 4 mm), stratifications and aluminum alloys have
