Temporal adaptations in generic and population-specific quality of life and falls efficacy in men with recent lower-limb amputations

open access: yes, 2013
This study examined the longitudinal changes in generic health-related quality of life (QOL), prosthesis-related QOL, falls efficacy, and walking speed in men with lower-limb amputations up to 6 months following discharge from rehabilitation.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in upper and lower extremity long bone fractures of emergency department trauma patients

open access: yesElectronic Physician, 2017
Background: Long bone fractures are common injuries caused by trauma. Some studies have demonstrated that ultrasound has a high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of upper and lower extremity long bone fractures.

Attitudes Regarding Lower Extremity Allotransplantation among Lower Extremity Amputees [PDF]

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2014
Lower limb allotransplantation is garnering increasing attention in the vascularized composite allotransplantation community as a potential treatment modality for those suffering from lower limb amputations. Little is known, however, about the level of interest among lower limb amputees regarding this procedure. An online survey regarding lower limb ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Third Trimester Lower Extremity Lymphorrhea

open access: yesCase Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2021
Introduction. Lower extremity edema is one of the most common complaints among pregnant patients. However, there is no literature mentioning weeping edema (i.e., lymphorrhea) in a pregnant woman who has no concordant underlying renal and/or cardiac ...

Complex Decongestive Therapy for Lower Extremity Lymphedema: Results from a Tertiary Care Center [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: Complex decongestive therapy (CDT) is the gold standard of lymphedema treatment. In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of CDT in patients with lower extremity lymphedema.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.
