Automated Discovery of Multicellular Behavior for Optimized Plant Growth and Climate Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An automated robotic system is described for rapid scientific experimentation with multicellular organisms. By enhancing a robotic liquid handler with a custom developed deep learning algorithm and camera module, samples and data are prepared with minimal human intervention.

Euler potentials for two layers with non-constant current densities in the ambient magnetic field aligned to the layers [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2016
The Euler potentials for two current layers aligned to an ambient homogeneous magnetic field are found. Previous treatment of such a system assumed constant current density in the layers. However, the magnetic field becomes infinite at the edges.

A Multimode Soft Robot Based on a Single Braided Tube

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel soft multimode robot based on a single braided tube directly formed and actuated by SMA wires with distinct initial configurations. By combining contraction, elongation, and bending deformations, the robot achieves straight crawling, turning, inchworm crawling, and rolling without additional actuators.

Method for Determination of 55Fe in Radioactive Used Oil from Nuclear Power Plant

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
55Fe is an important corresponding activation product during the operation of nuclear power plants. 55Fe may be present in the used oil required for main circuit mechanical equipment through cross-contaminating during maintenance activities-including ...

Reliability of the Granger causality inference

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
How to characterize information flows in physical, biological, and social systems remains a major theoretical challenge. Granger causality (GC) analysis has been widely used to investigate information flow through causal interactions.

Modeling and Characterization of a Self‐Sensing Soft Hydraulic Muscle

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents the self‐sensing soft hydraulic muscle (SSHM), a novel soft actuator capable of simultaneously sensing force and length without external sensors. A comprehensive model accurately predicts SSHM behavior, validated experimentally with minimal errors. Using propylene glycol enhances durability and reduces hysteresis.

Controller Synthesis from LSC Requirements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Live Sequence Charts (LSCs) is a visual requirements language for specifying reactive system behavior. When modeling and designing open reactive systems, it is often essential to have a guarantee that the requirements can be satisfied under all possible circumstances.

An LSC epigenetic signature is largely mutation independent and implicates the HOXA cluster in AML pathogenesis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2015
Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is characterized by subpopulations of leukaemia stem cells (LSCs) that are defined by their ability to engraft in immunodeficient mice.
