Univariate Lp and ɭ p Averaging, 0 < p < 1, in Polynomial Time by Utilization of Statistical Structure

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2012
We present evidence that one can calculate generically combinatorially expensive Lp and lp averages, 0 < p < 1, in polynomial time by restricting the data to come from a wide class of statistical distributions.

Effect of rollover risk on default risk: evidence from bank financing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We study the effect of rollover risk on the risk of default using a comprehensive database of U.S. industrial firms during 1986–2013. Dependence on bank financing is the key driver of the impact of rollover risk on default risk. Default risk and rollover

Changes in Stabile Organic Carbon in Differently Managed Fluvisol Treated by Two Types of Anaerobic Digestate

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Biogas and anaerobic digestion has begun to be considered an important renewable and sustainable energy source. The sustainable development of the anaerobic digestion process depends largely on the ability to manage large amounts of by-products generated

Environmental Impact Assessment of Sustainable Pig Farm via Management of Nutrient and Co-Product Flows in the Farm

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
This study evaluates the environmental impact assessment of sustainable pig farm via management of nutrient and co-product flows in the farm. Manure management and biogas production are among the most promising pathways towards fully utilizing organic ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

An improved lion strategy for the lion and man problem

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, a novel lion strategy for David Gale's lion and man problem is proposed. The devised approach enhances a popular strategy proposed by Sgall, which relies on the computation of a suitable "center".

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A preferential attachment model with random initial degrees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, a random graph process ${G(t)}_{t\geq 1}$ is studied and its degree sequence is analyzed. Let $(W_t)_{t\geq 1}$ be an i.i.d. sequence. The graph process is defined so that, at each integer time $t$, a new vertex, with $W_t$ edges attached ...

Stable Peak Filtering Method to Reject High Frequency Disturbance in Hard Disk Drives

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
In this paper, novel solutions are provided for designing the disturbance filter when there are significant plant dynamics within the bandwidth of the filter.

Urinary DNA as a Tool for Germline and Somatic Mutation Detection in Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer Patients

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
(1) Background: DNA damage response (DDR) pathway gene mutations are detectable in a significant number of patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
