Generation of Neural Organoids and Their Application in Disease Modeling and Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neural organoids provide a versatile platform for neurological research. Advances in organoid technology have partially achieved human neural tissue complexity in terms of tissue structure, cell diversity, and neural signaling, offering insights into neural disorders and regenerative strategies. Technology advances from biomaterials, bio‐manufacturing,

Lumbar Microdiscectomy [PDF]

open access: yesJBJS Essential Surgical Techniques, 2016
In most patients, the radiculopathy associated with lumbar disc herniation resolves nonoperatively. For patients in whom nonsurgical management has failed, microdiscectomy can be considered. Today, an operating microscope is preferred because of the collinear light and magnification offered. Alternatively, loupes and a headlight may be employed.

Osteopenic occult vertebral fracture is associated with poor oncological outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatic resection

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Osteopenic occult vertebral fracture (OVF) was associated with poor long‐term outcomes in patients with HCC after hepatic resection. Osteopenic OVF had a poorer prognosis than that of patients with either osteopenia or OVF. Abstract Background Although osteopenia has been associated with poor outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC ...

Manually defining regions of interest when quantifying paravertebral muscles fatty infiltration from axial magnetic resonance imaging: a proposed method for the lumbar spine with anatomical cross-reference

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2017
BackgroundThere is increasing interest in paravertebral muscle composition as a potential prognostic and diagnostic element in lumbar spine health. As a consequence, it is becoming popular to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to examine muscle volume ...

Relationship Between Kyphosis and Postoperative Gastroesophageal Reflux After Proximal Gastrectomy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study examined the relationship between kyphosis and postoperative gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after proximal gastrectomy using a kyphosis definition that is familiar to surgeons for preoperative assessment. Multivariate analysis revealed that kyphosis is an independent risk factor for GERD after proximal gastrectomy.
