Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Sensitive Cu2+ detection by reversible on-off fluorescence using Eu3+ complexes in SiO2, in chitosan/polyethylene oxide nanofibers

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
Trace amounts of heavy metal ions in the human body are essential for maintaining health. However, heavy metal ion excess or deficiency causes toxicity or disease. This study examines the sensitivity of luminescent europium complexes for the detection of

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Out-of-plane orientation of luminescent excitons in two-dimensional indium selenide

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Room temperature photoluminescence of most 2D van der Waals semiconductors originate from in-plane dipoles. Here, the authors report a combination of far-field photoluminescence measurements and ab-initio calculations to demonstrate that 2D-InSe flakes ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Luminescence of Tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) Incorporated at Moderate Temperature in Sol-Gel Glasses and Various Low-Melting Glasses

open access: yesCHIMIA, 1989
The luminescent and higher excited states of [Ru(bpy)3]2⊕ are critically discussed, and compared with new measurements in sol-gel glasses, a lead tin fluorophosphate glass (made at 280 °C), boric acid (230 °C), and polyvinylalcohol film (90 °C).

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.
