Prevalent Intrinsic Emission from Nonaromatic Amino Acids and Poly(Amino Acids) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Nonaromatic amino acids are generally believed to be nonemissive, owing to their lack of apparently remarkable conjugation within individual molecules. Here we report the intrinsic visible emission of nonaromatic amino acids and poly(amino acids) in concentrated solutions and solid powders.

A Novel Therapeutic Strategy for the Treatment of Glioma, Combining Chemical and Molecular Targeting of Hsp90a [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Hsp90α's vital role in tumour survival and progression, together with its highly inducible expression profile in gliomas and its absence in normal tissue and cell lines validates it as a therapeutic target for glioma.

Luminescence of alpha-quartz [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Among the host materials luminescence the luminescence of the self-trapped exciton (STE) is reviewed. This luminescence, which band is situated at 2.6 to 2.7 eV, could be observed mainly under ionising radiation with energetic yield about 0.2. The STE does not participate in pure recombination processes.

Medical diagnostics using designed molecules with sense and logic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Luminescent molecules responsive to cations, anions and even small molecules can be designed with the appropriate selectivity and sensitivity for monitoring physiological and pathological levels of analytes.

Whole-Volume Clustering of Time Series Data from Zebrafish Brain Calcium Images via Mixture Modeling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Calcium is a ubiquitous messenger in neural signaling events. An increasing number of techniques are enabling visualization of neurological activity in animal models via luminescent proteins that bind to calcium ions. These techniques generate large volumes of spatially correlated time series.

Role of edge inclination in optical microdisk resonator for label-free sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we report on the measurement and modelling of enhanced optical refractometric sensors based on whispering-gallery-modes. The devices under test are optical microresonators made of silicon nitride on silicon oxide.

Calcitriol Reverses Induced Expression of Efflux Proteins and Potentiates Cytotoxic Activity of Gemcitabine in Capan-2 Pancreatic Cancer Cells

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2017
Purpose. Efflux and influx proteins play a major role in chemo-resistance by affecting the net cellular uptake of anti-cancer drugs. Hence, alteration of the efflux and influx protein expression may result in variations of chemotherapeutics uptake and ...

Quantitative wave function analysis for excited states of transition metal complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The character of an electronically excited state is one of the most important descriptors employed to discuss the photophysics and photochemistry of transition metal complexes.
